Kenya Re Managing Director, Dr. Hillary Wachinga, on 29th June 2023 handed over a KES 1,000,000 (one Million) to the Government of Kenya through The National Environment Trust Fund (NETFUND). The donation was received by the NETFUND CEO, Mr. Samson Toniok.  The cheque presentation ceremony that was done at the Reinsurance Plaza Nairobi Boardroom, is aligned to the Corporation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative - Niko Fiti for Environment.  The donation will be channeled towards the 7th Edition of the Annual Kaptagat Forest Tree Planting that will take place on Saturday, 1st July 2023 at Kessup Forest Block, Elgeyo Marakwet County and which will be officiated by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. William Samoei Ruto. The Managing Director, Dr. Hillary Wachinga and a section of the Corporate Affairs team will represent the Corporation at the event.

The contribution will support the rehabilitation of 400 Ha within Kessup, Sabor, Kaptagat, Pennon, and Kipkabus forest blocks. Additionally, it will aid in the distribution of 100,000 avocado fruit seedlings thereby furthering the Corporation’s commitment towards environmental sustainability and conservation.  By investing in the rehabilitation of these forest blocks and the distribution of avocado seedlings, Kenya Re is actively contributing to the Government's directive of growing 15 billion trees by 2032. Also present at the cheque handover ceremony was Manager, Corporate Affairs – Gladys Some, Manager, Human Resources – Sally Waigumo, Communications Officer – Lilian Kanari, Communications Assistant – Edwin Muthabuku, Intern Corporate Affairs – Natasha Mbugua & representatives from the PR & Creative/Digital Consultancy firms.
