ADA COMMITTEE VISITS MATHARI HOSPITAL

As part of their mandate to identify with those members of society affected by the use or abuse of Alcohol and drugs, the ADA Committee members paid a visit to Mathari Hospital on 18th October 2017. They also offered support by taking with them a number of consumable items for use in the institution.

A TREE PLANTING EXERCISE LIKE NO OTHER

Most often than not, organizations seek to fulfill their statutory obligations on environment by planting trees. While the same applies to Kenya Re, the Corporation has adopted a different angle towards fulfilling its mandatory obligations as a responsible entity. Instead, Kenya Re seeks to plant the trees, monitor progress and ensure follow up of the same. For the last four years, Kenya Re has consistently planted trees annually at the Kibiko Secondary School with a view to ensure afforestation and sustenance of the same through assistance in acquisition of the tree seedlings, planting of the seedlings and piping of water to ensure consistent growth of the seedlings. 

KIBIKO SECONDARY SCHOOL MENTORSHIP

Every great achiever is inspired by a great mentor. In this life, everyone has a mentor and if not, one has atleast someone to whom you look up to derive inspiration and motivation to do better in a particular matter. During the Kenya Re tree planting activity held on 16th May 2017, members of the board of directors and staff took some before the start of the tree planting exercise to give some advice and encouragement to students of Kibiko Secondary School in Ngong. 

KENYA RE CONDUCTS LIFE AND NON - LIFE TRAINING FOR UGANDA MARKET

Kenya Re conducted Life and Non-Life training for the Uganda market from 24th July 2017 to 28th July 2017, at the Golf Hotel, Kampala. The Life training was conducted on 24th July 2017 and 25th July 2017. The discussions were based on Life medical underwriting, set up of a life underwriting department; Life Product Development and Pricing. This seminar was attended by 32 participants. 

NIKO FITI RECOGNIZED AS MOST INCLUSIVE CSR PROJECT

Diversity and Inclusion Awards held on 9th December 2016 at the Intercontinental Hotel. Kenya Re’s Niko Fiti Project was recognized as the most Inclusive CSR during the colourful award ceremony. The awards are organized and The ceremony aimed to recognize the success and vitality of the country in ensuring that there are equal opportunities to all persons and those men and women of Kenya are being empowered and accessing wealth creation opportunities without discrimination. The theme of the awards was, “Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion Indicators in our Sustainable Development Goals.” 

LET’S PLAY GOLF

Golf is a sport loved and played by many Kenyans because of their passion for the sports. It is a great way to connect with various people in business and other professionals from different careers. On 19th May 2017, the Corporation held its bi-annual golf tournament at the prestigious Karen Country Club. The club is rated number 4 among the top 10 golf courses in Kenya, and has also hosted some renowned international golfers and events. 

THE NIKO FITI JOURNEY

The Niko Fiti Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) flagship programme by Kenya Reinsurance Corporation was launched in the year 2011 and has journeyed through different phases over the years. Initially the campaign focused on providing clinical assessment, orthopaedic mobility and assistive devices and providing public education on disability through public awareness and sensitization campaigns. In 2016, the campaign extended to include persons with visual & hearing (sensory) disabilities and physiological/mental disabilities and aimed to ultimately grow awareness around disabilities while championing PWDs inclusion and participation in national building activities.

NIKO FITI DONATION TO CHILDRENS HOME

The Niko Fiti - Ability beyond Disability Corporate Social Responsibility initiative by Kenya Re team paid a visit to the St. Mary’s Centre for the disabled on Friday 9th June 2017 and made a donation of three months’ supply of diapers to the home. The children’s home was first established in 2013 to cater for the needs of children living with disabilities from the neighbouring Mukuru slums and is currently managed by the founder, Ms. Risper Kigen. 

LONG SERVING EMPLOYEES FETED AT STAFF PARTY

In line with Kenya Re’s tradition, the annual staff party is a rich mix of several activities are lined up for staff with one of the most anticipated being the long serving awards. Eight employees were recognized for having served the Corporation for between 20 to 30 years which is no mean feat to achieve. A total of 16 employees were recognised during the event meant to inspire the entire work force.

TREE PLANTING AT KIBIKU SECONDARY SCHOOL

As a Chinese proverb states “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the next best time is now.” The Corporation has lived to fulfilling this proverb by taking care the environment through tree planting. Kenya Re has over the years partnered with Kibiko Secondary School in Ngong in environmental conservation efforts through tree-planting, follow up and monitoring progress of the same.
