Dr. Mohamed Abdi is a distinguished Islamic finance consultant and strategist with over 15 years of professional experience across banking, insurance, pension, and regulatory sectors in East Africa. He has led numerous assignments in Shariah governance, Islamic product development, pension reform, and Takaful structuring, advising leading financial institutions and government agencies in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.


His expertise integrates technical understanding of AAOIFI, IFSB, and national pension and insurance regulations, providing practical, Shariah-compliant solutions to enhance inclusion and sustainability within the pension sector. Dr. Mohamed has also trained central banks, pension funds, insurance regulators, and commercial banks on Islamic finance governance frameworks, investment management, and Shariah compliance.


His academic foundation — a PhD in Strategic Management (JKUAT), Master’s in Banking & Finance, and Postgraduate Diploma in Islamic Banking & Insurance (IIBI – London) — underpins his strong analytical and policy capabilities. Dr. Mohamed is also a Trained Shariah Advisor and Auditor (AAOIFI). He has contributed to the development of Kenya’s first Shariah-compliant pension framework (LAPFUND) and published key thought pieces on Islamic pensions and Takaful regulation in leading international platforms.
